Short people problems

Body positivity is a big theme in the fashion industry, and the most important part of fashion is feeling comfortable in your own clothes. A major issue in the fashion industry is clothes not fitting people who are too small for adult sizes who often must get clothes altered which can be very costly.

Sizing is an important factor on how your clothes look and make you feel.

People on the shorter side of height often bump into problems with clothes not being made to accommodate their size.

There is a variety of clothing items that petite people find frustrating due to need of alteration or feeling like they just can't find any clothes in the grey area between kids and adult sizes.

Here are some of the clothing items that R/petitefashion find ruin the most outfits:

Blazers

Blazers and jackets are tricky to find the right size in due to the many different dimensions that are required for it properly to fit one's body like shoulder width, waist width and sleeve length.

This often means that even if the jacket is meant to be oversized in appearance the jacket may make you look like you're drowning in fabric.

Reddit users Janes-left-shoe, Fleeko and Yupstilldrunk outline the major issues in buying blazers below 5,4 here.

Boots

Being short, boots bring a variety of problems from being too short and making your legs look like they have tiny little anchors attached to them or being too tall and basically being a pair of trousers.

Reddit users Validusernamepwease, alexandrap21, littledove, uhohohnohelp and AFDA21 give some good points on how adult size boots aren't made to fit smaller people and often must be paired with other specific clothes to feel wearable here.

The Baggy debate

Given the fact that everyone that answered our question is below 5,4 it makes sense that they would have similar opinions on a lot of things however when redditor Suspicious Syrup began a conversation on baggy clothes a small debate started on the thread.

As redditors Graypricot and Mama-bear419 add here baggy clothes aren't guaranteed to look good on you. A major contributing factor in how the clothes look is your proportions and what other clothes you choose to style the baggy items with.

Long Skirts

Long skirts also cause major problems in the short fashion community often being too long like an old school parachute making the wearer seem even shorter in comparison.

Redditors AFDA21 Meekonesfade and littledove outline the major problems with long skirts here.

Jeans in all sizes

The worst offender making fashion difficult for short people seems to be jeans and we got a variety of different opinions on the reddit thread, whether it be a love hate relationship with baggy and low-rise jeans or just the age-old short people problem of jeans being way to long for stubby legs.

Redditors, Ella_s11, uhohohnohelp, Vivahermione, Littledove and training-guitar-8881 outline the wide range of problems people of petite sizes face when trying to wear denim.
